ART THERAPY FOR KIDS AT CREATIVE COUNSELING COLORADO

Creative Counseling Colorado is dedicated to providing you a smooth and clear process from start to finish when it comes to the therapy services provided to you and / or your child. By reviewing the information below, you hope you can better understand how our process, timeline, therapy options, and practices work. Should you have any additional questions, please reach out for clarity.

  • Why choose us over another group practice?
Group practices who take insurance and are vital resources to the community. At Creative Counseling Colorado, we believe that the more resources that are available to families, the better. Leigh spent years working for a large group practice that took insurance and although it was a wonderful learning experience, Leigh saw first hand the high turnover and burnout rate. Here at Creative Counseling Colorado, we value the mental health of the therapist as much as the client and we keep our caseloads smaller and more manageable, so that the client receives a higher quality experience.
  • Is my child too young or too old?
Creative Counseling Colorado works with kids of all ages starting around 4 and can go into young adulthood. If the child is younger than 5, I would anticipate more parent sessions so that parents can feel more confident about implementing the skills needed to get the desired results outside of a therapeutic setting.
  • Do you offer Telehealth?
Yes. As long as the client is located in the state of Colorado we can connect through HIPAA compliant software. However, telehealthing with younger kids is quite the challenge, which is why we also provide in person services. Telehealth could be a great option for teens and parent only sessions.
  • How much does each session cost?
Therapy sessions with Leigh Bates, LPC, Art Therapist and Play Therapist, cost $150-$200 per session and are due at time of service. We accept FSA, HSA, OON and provide super bills to each family. We offer a sliding scale rate to meet the unique needs and financial situations of our clients. We offer a complimentary chat prior to booking an appointment to talk through what you can expect. At Creative Counseling Colorado, our standard sessions are billed for 45 minutes. However, we understand that every client's needs are unique, and we offer flexibility in the structure and duration of our sessions. Because our practice operates on a private pay basis, we are not bound by the constraints often imposed by insurance companies. This allows us to tailor our services to better meet your individual needs, ensuring a more personalized and effective therapeutic experience.
  • Do you accept insurance?
Currently, Creative Counseling Colorado only accepts private pay and does not bill insurance, though you should be able to utilize funds from Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Savings Account (HSA), or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) cards for counseling sessions. We take client privacy very seriously. By utilizing an FSA, HSA or HRA card, it allows our clients to conveniently cover session costs without involving CCC in insurance billing, preventing the disclosure of a diagnosis or private health information. Opting for private pay counseling offers several advantages, including the ability for clients and therapists to determine the frequency and type of counseling without the need for a mental health diagnosis to be recorded in permanent health records. This is crucial, as such diagnoses can impact one's ability to obtain certain insurance or employment opportunities. We do not take Medicaid. If you are insured by Medicaid you have to see a Medicaid approved provider.
  • How can I pay for therapy services?
Therapy services can be paid for using an active credit or debit card, or by using an FSA,HSA or HRA account.
  • How long is each session?
At Creative Counseling Colorado, our standard sessions are billed for 45 minutes. However, we understand that every client's needs are unique, and we offer flexibility in the structure and duration of our sessions. Because our practice operates on a private pay basis, we are not bound by the constraints often imposed by insurance companies. This allows us to tailor our services to better meet your individual needs, ensuring a more personalized and effective therapeutic experience.
  • How much will I as the parent be involved?
Every case is different and it mostly depends on your child's age and your comfortability. If the client is an older adolescent, parents typically prefer that adolescent to have a safe space to discuss concerns with the therapist. If the child is younger, parents tend to be more involved due to the connection between parenting and behavior. We take the safety of your family VERY seriously, and will always inform parents when unsafe behavior is occurring. Since we do not have to answer to insurance companies, we can have sessions as frequently as the client requires. Please inform Creative Counseling Colorado during intake your expectation for communication with you about your child.
  • What are your rules around child custody?
Any situation involving custody of a child is taken very seriously and professionally. All documents pertaining to the custody situation will have to be uploaded before the first appointment and consent from both parents will have to be obtained as well. If there is a situation where one or both parents are not legally required to give consent, then those documents will need to be uploaded as well. Our role in the child’s life is that of a therapist and therefore we will not get involved in legal mediation, the legal aspects of the court case, or to testify in court unless required to do so.
  • What if I don't know if I am ready to have my child start therapy?
It’s ok to be unsure of how to proceed as a parent, after all there is no guidebook. When figuring out how to proceed I would consult with a trusted friend, your child's teacher, or even their pediatrician. There is also no harm in booking a consultation call. It is free and we are not in the business of selling goods. Our goal at Creative Counseling Colorado is to help build and repair confidence and connection in Children through art and play therapy, and therefore our goal is to help you as the parent also feel more confident about what direction to go in.
  • What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?
We understand that life happens and you may need to cancel or reschedule. We kindly ask that you provide as much notice as possible. If cancellations occur within less than 24 hours, a $75 cancellation fee will be assessed. We are happy to reschedule your appointments at any time, with a cancellation fee being avoided if communicated outside the 24 hour period.
